Two Kids and a Cardboard Box

A Box of fun!

Give a kid a cardboard box - that’s what they say, and generally I’m sure they are right. Unless of course you are talking about a 3 year old like Big Sis who has very particular ideas about how her imaginary world should look, then instead of hours of quiet play there are short bursts of furtive activity - followed by loud angry outbursts and tears!

Anyway, DSO did all the hard work (spatial tasks are not my forte) by taking a refrigerator box, closing in the other end and cutting a door. He was keen for sky lights as well but I insisted we keep it dark so the kids get some use out of the flashlights Santa bought them!

Today we dragged boxy (my pet name for the construction) outside and covered him in butchers paper. The kids then painted him (and themselves, and the dry washing…). It was hours of fun (many hours in fact when you consider the time taken to rewash and dry the washing)!

Before we started the task I had a quick surf of the net to see what it could tell me about kids and cardboard box fun. The first one I pulled up was this castle. Tell me that’s for kids - there must be more adult box enthusiasts out there than I previously realised! I did find the section on scamming lots and lots of boxes quite amusing though!

Playschool as ever has some wonderful stuff. I also liked this craft section in a site designed for parents with lots (and lots) of kids. Out of morbid interest check out the food suggestions on this site. Just the thought of eating the Corned Beef Hash is as good as a contraceptive in my book!

Ah internet, God bless you!

I especially like the way Big Ted (or is it Little - hard to tell with no other toys for comparison) waves his balloons in a slightly drunken manner as you wave your mouse over him … I did it more than once. Does that make me tragic?
