Easter egg hunt

Today we joined some local kids and parents for an Easter egg hunt in the park, followed by a sausage sizzle! It was a glorious Autumn day, not too hot, not too cold with bright but gentle sunshine.  The kids loved it!

There are a number of variations on Easter egg hunt protocol. I likened todays to a ‘communist hunt’ where eggs were gathered in a communal basket and then distributed evenly amongst the children.

I attended an egg hunt last week that was more ’socialist left’ in its leanings. Here the kids gathered what eggs they could and then the baskets were surreptitiously evened up by the parents from a spare stash.  An alternative to this is what I term the ‘benevolent dictator’ model where the kids are ‘persuaded’ to share eggs with those slower or smaller kids with emptier baskets.

It made me wonder whether anyone runs a fully capitalist, Donald Trump, Ayn Rand style hunt where each kid gathers their own and, as in life, there are winners and losers.  Better luck next year kid!  Perhaps in certain suburbs of Sydney?  Possibly the Macquarie Bank creche?

I heard of some kids turning up to an egg hunt recently to discover the eggs weren’t chocolate, but hard boiled.  I think my analogy stops there - that’s not an egg hunt, that’s ridiculous!
